Author: Stake DAO Association
Summary
Stake DAO proposes to officially shut down 16 legacy products (187 contracts on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon and Avalanche). These products are no longer maintained, but their contracts are still live and still need to be secured.
Stake DAO will not set any deadline or charge any fee for withdrawals from these products. Users can withdraw through the withdraw page at withdraw.stakedao.org, or directly on-chain, to the extent the underlying contracts, and any third-party protocols they rely on, allow.
The proposal also sets a final claim date, six months after the end of the vote, on the legacy merkle described below.
Why
- Security. Reducing the number of live contracts with privileged roles reduces the protocol’s overall attack surface.
- Maintenance. Watching old products takes time the team should spend on current products and new ones.
- Clarity. Users with old balances get one exit page instead of scattered legacy interfaces.
About 4,100 wallets still hold a balance in these products (17 Oct 2026).
What changes for users
- Deposits are disabled wherever the contracts allow. Any deposit made to them after execution earns nothing and is made at the depositor’s own risk.
- They stop earning rewards at execution and leave the Stake DAO app. Rewards accrued before execution remain claimable, to the extent the reward contracts hold them.
- You can still withdraw at any time, with no deadline and no fee, from the withdraw page at withdraw.stakedao.org or directly on-chain.
Some withdrawals rely on third-party protocols (Rari Fuse, Opyn, Curve, Balancer, PancakeSwap) and may fail, be delayed, or return less than expected if those protocols lack liquidity or no longer operate. Stake DAO does not control these protocols.

Other legacy contracts
The following contracts are not products, but they are covered by the withdraw page and by the role clean-up below: SDT vesting escrows (January and February 2023, Ethereum, 2 contracts, claim()) and sdBAL vesting (Ethereum, 10 contracts, claim(position)).
This proposal does not change the terms of any vesting arrangement or any beneficiary’s rights under it. Only the interface through which beneficiaries claim changes. No role on which a vesting arrangement depends will be removed or exercised in a way that affects a beneficiary’s entitlement.
Legacy Pendle airdrop merkle
The merkle contract 0x6D98023de9AdeEE661E922F58f5c2ff086be1F4e holds unclaimed rewards from past Pendle airdrops, of approximately $7,400 across 91 eligible addresses as of Oct 20, 2026. It has no claim deadline today, so it must stay live and maintained forever.
- Claim window. Each eligible address may claim until the date falling six months after the end of the voting period of this proposal, provided the proposal passes (the “Terminal Claim Date”).
- Reminders. The Association will publish reminders on at least two official channels no later than 90, 30 and 7 days before the Terminal Claim Date.
- After the Terminal Claim Date. The merkle root is updated so that unclaimed amounts lapse and may be claimed only by the Stake DAO treasury.
This follows SDGP-69, which set a Terminal Claim Date of 30 October 2026 for the sdPENDLE and sdBAL voting-power rewards, and SDGP-76, which set a six-month claim window on Votemarket reward merkle trees.
What the DAO will do
- Stop all development, harvests, reward streams and Votemarket campaigns on these products.
- Disable deposits on every contract where the multisig can do so, and publish the list of contracts where it cannot.
- Remove the products from the Stake DAO app and docs, and point users to the withdraw page.
- Remove every owner, strategist and keeper role that is not needed for withdrawals. It will not use any role it retains to move, freeze or restrict users’ balances, or to charge any fee on withdrawals, and will never sweep users’ deposited assets to the treasury. Retained roles are limited to what is strictly necessary to keep withdrawals working, or to protect users’ balances in a security incident; any such action, and the reasons for it, will be published on the governance forum within 48 hours.
- Close claims on the legacy merkle on the Terminal Claim Date, after the reminders set out above.
- Announce the shutdown on X and Discord, and show a notice in the Stake DAO app pointing users of retired products to the withdraw page.
- Publish, within 30 days of execution, the full contract list with the roles removed and retained for each contract.
- Keep the withdraw page available for at least 12 months after execution, with at least 30 days’ notice before taking it down. The contracts remain usable on-chain whether or not the page is online.
Vote
- For: retire the products listed above as described, and set a Terminal Claim Date on the legacy merkle.
- Against: reject the proposal.
- Abstain: take no position.

Legal Annex
Nature of this document
This document is a non-binding governance coordination notice published by the Stake DAO Association (a Swiss not-for-profit association) for the benefit of participants in the Stake DAO governance process. It does not create contractual rights or obligations between any person and the Stake DAO Association, between any participants, or with any third party, save for the commitments the Association expressly gives in the section “What the DAO will do”. Where this document refers to actions to be taken by smart contracts, those actions are performed autonomously by code deployed on a public blockchain and are not undertaken by any legal person on behalf of any other legal person.
Regulatory & Legal Notice
This document is a governance coordination notice relating to the operation of a decentralised protocol. It is provided for information only and does not constitute an offer, solicitation, recommendation, investment advice, or any regulated financial service in any jurisdiction. The Stake DAO protocol operates through non-custodial smart contracts. The Stake DAO Association does not custody or take title to user funds. Nothing herein is legal, regulatory, accounting, financial, or tax advice. Participation is voluntary and at each participant’s own risk.
Retired products. The products and contracts listed in this proposal are retired. They are no longer developed, and they are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Balances shown on the withdraw page are read from public on-chain data and may be incomplete or delayed; an address that is not listed may still hold assets that can be withdrawn on-chain.
Third-party protocols. Some withdrawals depend on protocols that the Stake DAO Association does not operate or control, including Rari Fuse, Opyn, Curve, Balancer and PancakeSwap, some of which are themselves no longer maintained. The Association makes no representation as to whether, when, or for what amount any withdrawal through such a protocol can be completed, or as to the market value of any asset received.
Nature of the claim window. The Terminal Claim Date is a condition of the rewards held in the legacy merkle contract and not a debt or other obligation owed by the Stake DAO Association or any other person. Rewards not claimed by the Terminal Claim Date lapse; a participant who does not claim by that date retains no continuing entitlement to them, and any amount subsequently claimed by the treasury is treated as a protocol-owned asset. The claim window does not apply to assets deposited by users in the retired products, which remain withdrawable without deadline as set out above.
Restricted persons. Nothing in this document is directed at, or intended to be acted upon by, any person who is (a) a U.S. Person as defined in Regulation S under the U.S. Securities Act of 1933, (b) ordinarily resident in any jurisdiction in which participation would be unlawful, or (c) the subject of sanctions administered by the United Nations, the European Union, SECO, the United Kingdom, or OFAC (each a “Restricted Person”). No merkle reward will be made available to a Restricted Person, and any such amount lapses and may be claimed by the treasury. The withdraw page may decline to display or process withdrawals for addresses it identifies as associated with a Restricted Person.
Forward-looking statements. Statements in this document regarding future actions, timelines, user behaviour and similar matters reflect current expectations only. They are not guarantees, and actual outcomes may differ materially.
Risk Acknowledgement
Participants expressly acknowledge and accept: (a) Smart-contract risk: retired contracts are no longer developed, and audited code is not warranted to be free from defects; (b) Third-party risk: withdrawals relying on third-party protocols may fail, be delayed, or return less than expected if those protocols lack liquidity or cease to operate; (c) Market and liquidity risk: some assets may have little or no market value or liquidity; (d) Deposit risk: any deposit made after execution into a contract where deposits could not be disabled earns no rewards and is made at the depositor’s own risk; (e) Interface risk: the withdraw page may become unavailable after the period stated above, although the contracts remain accessible on-chain; (f) Claim-window risk: merkle rewards not claimed by the Terminal Claim Date lapse; (g) Regulatory risk: applicable regulatory frameworks may evolve; (h) Tax risk: participants are solely responsible for their own tax obligations.
Provisions
The following provisions apply to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, and to the extent any liability or relationship is nonetheless asserted to arise out of or in connection with this proposal.
Limitation of Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, and subject to the mandatory provisions of Swiss law, the aggregate liability of the Stake DAO Association and each of its members, directors, officers, employees, agents, contributors and multisig signers, and any person acting on its or their behalf (each a “Released Party”), to any claimant for all claims arising out of or in connection with this proposal shall not exceed the greater of (i) the total protocol fees actually paid by that claimant to a Released Party in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim and (ii) USD 100. Nothing in this section limits or excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under Swiss law.
Force Majeure. No Released Party shall be liable for any failure or delay resulting from causes beyond its reasonable control, including network failure, smart-contract exploits, acts or omissions of third-party protocols, regulatory or court orders, or acts of God.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution. This proposal is governed by the laws of Switzerland. Any dispute that is nonetheless asserted to arise out of or in connection with this proposal shall be finally resolved by arbitration administered by the Swiss Arbitration Centre under the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration. The seat of arbitration shall be Zurich, with a sole arbitrator, in English.
Severability. If any provision is held invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, it shall be severed and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force.
Amendment. This proposal may be amended only by a subsequent proposal adopted in accordance with the Stake DAO governance framework.
Notices. Official communications will be published through (i) gov.stakedao.org, (ii) @StakeDAOHQ on X/Twitter, and (iii) stakedao.org. Holders are responsible for monitoring these channels.
